Violinist Calliope Smith, an eighth-grader at Stanford Online High School, studies violin at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Academy with Simon James and Chen Zhao, and applied musicianship with Hiro David. Smith has been a prize winner in several international and local competitions. She has soloed with the Uniart Orchestra in Paris, the New York Concerti Sinfonietta at Merkin Hall, and the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Smith is also an avid chamber musician and recently performed a recital at the Barbro Osher Recital Hall with her piano quartet, Cadentia, which won grand prize in the Enkor Competition. She has played in solo and chamber music master classes for Midori, Kim Kashkashian, Kenneth Renshaw, and Ariana Kim. During the Summer of 2025, she will be participating in both the Music@Menlo and Center Stage Strings programs. She loves writing stories, baking, learning languages, and participating in Model United Nations.
