Melissa Du began her violin studies at age 6 in Vancouver, Canada. The fifth prize laureate and youngest competitor of the 2023 Shean Strings Competition in Edmonton, Alberta, Du is also a recipient of numerous gold medals, distinctions, and scholarships, including a top prize in the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2023 Concerto Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra and has played in concert halls including the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver and Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Since 2019, Du has been a student of Simon James at the Coleman Violin Studio in Seattle, Washington. She has attended summer music programs including the Kaufman Music Center’s 2024 SummerFest, Sounding Point Academy 2020, and the 2023 Texas Strings Festival. Du is fortunate to have participated in master classes with artists such as Augustin Hadelich, Vadim Gluzman, and Ray Chen, among others.
