Artist Bio

Liam Young-Skeen, viola

Liam Young-Skeen, 19, is a sophomore violist at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he studies with Peter Slowik, and is a recipient of the Conservatory Dean’s Scholarship. His Oberlin quartet, the Monroe String Quartet, has had the honor of participating in numerous performance and educational opportunities, including the Hidden Valley Chamber Music Seminar studying with the Verona Quartet and Oberlin’s Chamberfest! It was also selected as the only freshman group to perform in a master class with Midori. This summer, Young-Skeen will join his quartet at Madeline Island Chamber Music and at Encore Chamber Music Institute, where they are recipients of the String Quartet Fellowship. Young-Skeen is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and former Co-principal Violist with the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra. He has previously studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College division with Madeline Prager, and with the Telegraph Quartet.
