Artist Bio

Shunkai Xu, cello

Shunkai Xu, born in 2011 in Shanghai, China, is a dedicated young cellist and pianist. In 2018, he was honored with first prize at the China Franz Liszt International Youth Piano Competition, followed by wins at the China Tchaikovsky AMUMGK International Piano Competition, the China International Young Pianist Competition, and the Tchaikovsky Art Award Asia Piano Open Competition. At the age of 9, he embarked on his cello journey, and within a year, he achieved the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 8 with Distinction in both piano and cello. This led him to pursue advanced cello studies under the guidance of Professor Dahai Liu and Weixi Luo of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Xu has received guidance from professors including Reinhard Latzko, Martti Rousi, Natalie Clein, Ditta Rohmann, Toke Moldrup, and Sandro Meo. He enjoys computer science and robotics, speaking English and German, road cycling, and basketball.
