Cellist Maurice Neuman, 19, is a freshman at Princeton University. Previously a student of Professor Hans Jørgen Jensen at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music, he now studies with Professor Clancy Newman. Neuman was Principal Cellist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s top orchestra for two years, and the Principal Cellist of the 2023 Illinois Music Education Association All-State Honors Orchestra. He has soloed with the DePaul, Lakeview, and Northwest symphony orchestras. Neuman is the first prize winner of the 2023 George Gershwin International Music Competition, Young Artist Division, and the 2023 Nineteenth Century Charleston International Music Competition. He attended Greenwood Music Camp for six summers and appeared last summer as a concert artist at ChamberFest Brown County. Neuman has been featured on New York’s Classical Music Radio Station, WQXR. He is a member of the Princeton University Orchestra, the Princeton Nassoons (Princeton’s oldest Acapella group), and plays in various chamber ensembles.
