American and British cellist Sameer Apte has collaborated as soloist with conductors Carl Topilow, Stephen Schultz, and Gerard Schwarz; and as a chamber musician with the Aeolus Quartet and members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. His festival appearances include Music@Menlo, Aspen, Lake Champlain, Tanglewood, PMF Sapporo, the Maine Chamber Music Seminar, and Madeline Island. An active Baroque cellist, he particularly advocates for, performs, and researches the cello music of late 18th century Britain.
Born in 1997 in Cleveland, Ohio, Sameer Apte began his studies at the Cleveland Music School Settlement with Nicole Castleberry and graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music’s preparatory division under Martha Baldwin. Most recently, he completed his doctoral degree as assistant to Colin Carr at Stony Brook University. He also has studied with Paul Katz at the New England Conservatory, and Anne Martindale Williams (cello) and Daniel Curtis (conducting) at Carnegie Mellon University. Since 2022 he has taught undergraduate cello and chamber music at Stony Brook.
